After a full day in the office, it’s Kallman’s second trip to recording studio this evening, and, as usual, has work day won’t be done until well after midnight. “If I ID’d that one track, and I carry that through to the execution of a hit record that’s a multimillion-dollar decision and a multimillion-dollar result for the corporation,” says Kallman. “If I dropped the ball and Island Def Jam comes in tomorrow and says, ‘We want it for Rihanna,’ I could have cost the company millions of dollars by not attacking.”

There’s also a new mix of an upcoming Estelle single to play and a series of brand-new tracks to analyze. “This man don’t sleep,” says Wonder, who Kailman hopes could become a house producer for the label, bringing in an endless procession of tiffany bangle like Samuel. “What Berry Gordy had, with Holland-Dozier-Holland, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder all in the same place, competing to write the best songs,” says Kallman, “we’re trying to get that same thing going.”

Today’s Atlantic Records is “A&R-driven” in a fashion that Atlantic’s co-founder, the consummate record man Ahmet Ertegun, would have understood – built around talent scouts finding commercial songs or, in many cases, assembling them piece by piece: For hip-hop and R&B tunes in particular, they may spend weeks or months sifting through competing ideas for the right melody. Earlier tonight, at a smaller studio blocks away, tiffany necklace rejected the hook of a track by rapper Maino (”This is terrible,” Kallman says flatly), sending his A&R rep scrambling for a new chorus.

At the same time, Atlantic is pushing itself into a postCD world; in 2008, it became the first label to sell more than 50 percent of its music as digital files. “It’s not preparing for a digital future – we’re in the digital business,” says Greenwald. “When Flo Rida sells 8 Elsa Peretti® Butterfly pendant tracks, that’s 800,000 album equivalents. Why isn’t everyone jumping up and down?”

All of the label’s new contracts with bands are so-called 360 deals, giving Atlantic a cut of acts’ merchandising, touring, fan clubs and other nonrecorded music revenue – so the label now has departments focused on touring and merchandise. “It’s about, how do we grow all of your businesses?” says Greenwald. “How do we do what’s right not just by looking at [profit and loss] on one album but taking a very long-term approach? How do I get you to become an arena-touring act someday and sell aton of T-shirts, music, whatever?”

Robyn’s live band consists of two drummers and two keyboard players, and her appearance at the Grand Ballroom at Manhattan Center, in 2008, was a model of economy and fun. Most pop stars of her calibre would spring for video screens and confetti, but Robyn can actually sing, with a murderously precise alto that can indulge in breathy phrasing at one moment and then break in half in a five-second-long legato wail. With her asymmetrical blond hair and tight-fitting black top that seemed to feature both a cape and a wing, she was her own stage set. In a small but significant comment on her status as a sexual object, she typically wears outfits that, tight as they may be, usually cover her from head to toe. Robyn often shows less skin than the bald mainstream rocker and former “American Idol” contestant Chris Daughtry.

“Body Talk Pt. 1″ belongs to a larger project that Robyn began last year with Ahlund; by the end of 2010, at least one more album, and possibly two, will come out. As she did on her last album, she leads with her sense of humor. (”Konichiwa Bitches,” from “Robyn,” is a stomping, Day-Glo assertion of Robyn’s wide-ranging fighting prowess.) “Fembot” slows down the pulse of house music, dappling the straight lines with neat dips and kick drums that keep things on the tiffany jewellery side of repetitive. The wordplay of the title is a variation on the common pop trick of fusing woman and machine, usually from the male perspective. Here, Robyn turns into the hottest C.P.U. on the block, singing with herself in a multi-tracked chorus that has a slightly inhuman, metallic sheen: “My system’s in mint condition, the power’s up on my transistors / Working fine, no glitches, plug me in and flip some switches.” The closest she comes to a personal take is in the intro: “I’ve got some news for you / fembots have feelings, too.” I cufflinks to the album with several tweens, and this line didn’t exactly break their hearts. They fell over laughing and asked me repeatedly what a fembot was.

Robyn’s answer is not necessarily embedded in the lyrics. She told me that it’s about how a woman can “make sense of being a person with her own mind and her own feelings and also being a body that has its own life. It’s about the buy tiffany accessories of our society that we’ve created for ourselves.” All women, then, could be fembots, or be trained to be fembots, though Robyn’s song makes it sound like she enjoys being a robotic pop star.

No one said a word, though–not strangers, not the people I knew. I was shocked.Nobody treated me differently. For 20 years, I had been expecting a reaction that never came. And I soon realized that having the secret out was liberating. Not until then could I begin the repair work on my spirit for the sexual abuse and damage done to me as a young girl.

I realized that all those years, I had been blaming myself. What I learned for sure was that holding the shame was the greatest burden of all. That, even more than the betrayal, is what had kept me in bed from Friday to Monday.

I’ve since been betrayed by others, most often by disgruntled employees trying to gain an extra buck. But although it’s a kick in the gut, it doesn’t make me cry or take to my bed anymore. What I learned from that first betrayal is that when you have nothing buy tiffany necklaces be ashamed of, when you know who you are and what you stand for, you stand in wisdom. Insight. Strength and protection. You stand in peace.

HYDERABAD, Pakistan, Jun. 20 (IPS/GIN) — Hunched over the flame, tiffany jewellery bangle in one hand and a long, thin glass stick in the other, Shumaila works on the floor of a back room in a small, two-room house. With the doors and windows closed, the heat is stifling, but the 15-year-old girl concentrates on etching floral patterns on the glass bangles.

“I’m not very good with ‘murai’ (decorating the bangles), not like my sisters who have been at it for much longer,” she told IPS. Shumaila decorates six dozen bangles a day, which fetches her about 16 rupees (30 U.S. cents).

It adds to the family kitty, and an elder sister said tiffany ring are able to earn just under $13 a week. The effort has already taken a toll of young Shumaila, who has been part of the bangle-making trade for four years now.

“The work is fine, although I get tired after sitting in one position for too long, but it’s the heat that makes me dizzy. It burns my eyes.” Pointing to burn marks on her fingers, she said: “For these I put ‘mehndi’ (henna) and that eases the pain.”

But it is not uncommon. At her middle-class New Delhi apartment complex, testing is an obsession for families of high school students. Parents gossip about scores, anguish over them, and pray over them. Students spend months preparing for tests – and worrying about them.

“We have to keep them under pressure,” says Jaya Samaddar, whose daughter is studying for the national exams given in 10th grade. “We have no other choice.”

For the last decade, India’s economy has been booming and the ranks of its middle class expanding rapidly. India also has one of the world’s youngest populations. All this means that the cutthroat competition has only gotten worse for the limited number of slots in the country’s higher-education system.

High school seniors must pass national board exams to graduate from tiffany jewellery school. Since university admissions are based overwhelmingly on these – roughly the equivalent of S.A.T.’s – and other entrance exams, testing season has become a period of excruciating pressure for students and their families.

The mania over testing underscores a fundamental disconnect in Indian education: Even as elite Indian students have achieved remarkable success studying overseas, the educational system in India is widely considered to be failing both the tens of millions of students at the bottom, necklaces drop out before high school, and the smaller pool at the top, who are competing for entrance into universities that are too few and underfinanced.

Experts warn that the potential advantages of India’s tiffany money clip population could become disadvantages if the government cannot improve the education system rapidly enough to give more students a chance at college. Of the 186 million students in India, only about 12 percent are enrolled in higher education, one of the lowest ratios in the world. (Sixty-nine percent of U.S. high school graduates go to college.) During the next decade, India expects another 40 million students.

“If you have 150 million or 160 million children who don’t go to college, what is going to happen to them 10 or 15 years from now?” asks Kapil Sibal, the government minister who oversees education.

Thus, the intent of the present investigation was threefold: (a) to further assess reliability of the Exercise Barriers Self-Efficacy Scale for Children (EBSES-C) – a measure of selfregulatory efficacy adapted from die aforementioned research wifh adults (Marcus et al., 1992) – in a sample of African American pr茅adolescents; (b) to replicate and extend the research on adults, suggesting that as the TTM stage is more advanced, self-regulatory efficacy is greater (Marcus et al., 1992); and (c) to examine possibilities of change in exercise barriers self-efficacy significantly mediating die relationship between changes in TTM stage and voluntary physical activity in response to a behavioral treatment. We expected die reliability of the EBSES-C would be adequate for die present sample and that a more advanced TTM stage would be associated with greater self-efficacy. We also expected that change in exercise barriers self-efficacy would mediate die relationship between changes in TTM stage and voluntary physical activity. Method Participants

Two hundred six preadolescents (104 girls), ranging in age from 8 to 12 years, were recruited from an elementary school in the southeastern United States. All participants were African American, with a mean age of 9.9years (SD= 1.1). cheap silver jewelry mean BMI score corresponded to die 78th percentile (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2000) . Based on data from the free and reduced-price meal program, participants were in the lower or lower middle class. We obtained appropriate institutional review, written consent from parents or legal guardians (including a statement of sufficient healfh to participate) , and assent from participants for this study.Measures

Stage-op-Change. We adapted a self-report measure of stage-of-change for physical activity from items intended for adults (Marcus et al., 1992). In response to “the one phrase diat describes you best,” participants indicated one of five items corresponding to the tiffany jewellery, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance stages of the TTM (Prochaska et al, 1992). TTM stages maybe viewed as a continuum from being unready to consider physical activity (i.e., precontemplation stage) to completing exercise on a regular basis for at least 6 months (i.e., maintenance stage). For this study, items included die phrase, “3 or more days per week (for 20 minutes or more each time) ,” in place of the more ambiguous term, “regularly,” that Marcus et al. used. However, Marcus et al. defined “regular exercise” as the identical frequency and duration (p. 65) . In addition, each item in our study began with the phrase, “Not counting PE”, because we were interested in physical activity voluntarily completed outside of where it was mandated. We assumed that, unlike adults, children sometimes complete exercise because they are “required” to (e.g., in PE classes), and we had to account for this or tiffany ring of die TTM stage could be inaccurate. A sample item (corresponding to the preparation stage) was, “Not counting PE, I currently exercise some, but not 3 days or more per week (for 20 minutes or more each time) .” It should be noted that we did not refer to the Youth Fit For Life treatment by name; thus, the participants considered it to be PE.

At International CES, the company will expand its iPod-oriented assortment, launch its first Bluetooth stereo headsets and add products and accessories for use with a specific MP3 player brand that iLuv declined to disclose. “We’re looking at other platforms, perhaps satellite radio,” Viken added.

Other key product introductions at CES will be the industry’s first iPod-docking home audio products with included two-way Bluetooth technology, Viken said. An iLuv clock radio and one-piece tabletop AM/FM/CD stereo system will transmit music to Bluetooth headphones or to any other Bluetooth-equipped device, Viken said. The iLuv products in turn will reproduce music that they receive wirelessly from Bluetooth-equipped portables tiffany shopping as music-playing cellphones and MP3 players equipped to a Bluetooth dongle, also available from iLuv.

iLuv uses the term BluePin to describe its patented Bluetooth implementation, which takes shape as a module that’s smaller than a 9-volt battery. Consumers plug the module into selected iLuv products via the module’s pin connectors. The first two iLuv products to use the technology will ship with the module included. My iPod Touch needs protection. After shopping around, the only solution I could find was the OtterBox iPod Touch Armor case. This hard plastic case is shock- and waterproof and allows control of the iPod Touch’s touchscreen through a clear plastic film — but it is really only good for earphone listening. I figured I could improve upon the concept. I envisioned a boombox — waterproof and nearly indestructible — that could transport my tunes to any rings. Because there isn’t any product like that on the market, I was going to have to build one myself.

Hardware-hacking projects can get expensive, so I started by mining for parts among the old electronics that litter my attic. I found an old set of Virgin Boomtube portable speakers, an old iPod AV dock and a watertight, hard camera case. This is too easy, I thought. With a few cuts, some simple wiring and glue, I could build it in a day. But I wanted something more. The audio would work, but the iPod Touch’s 3.5-in. tiffany pendants on sale seemed unsatisfying for video. I figured adding a larger screen would be a simple upgrade.

I was wrong. Finding a screen was the easy part: I bought a used Memorex iFlip video player for $38. This should have been the video solution I was looking for. The iFlip has both an 8-in. LCD screen and an iPod connector. I dismantled the iFlip and removed its video board, rechargeable batteries, LCD panel and iPod connector, intending to rebuild the iFlip and its screen into my waterproof camera case.

Unfortunately, getting video from the iPod Touch is tricky. The latest-generation iPods require an authentication chip from Apple before they will output video to another device, and the iFlip was made before the authentication chip existed, so to get the two things to tiffany jewellery together, I had to buy Apple’s $49 composite video cable.

The solution was a page from Rube Goldberg. The audio and composite video output from the Apple cable plugged into RCA audio inputs from the Boomtube and a composite-to-S-video converter from RadioShack, which I then soldered to the circuit board of my old iPod dock. Then the female connector off the back of the iPod dock plugged into the iFlip’s male iPod connector. It was a lot more connectors and wires than I was hoping for, but it worked.

We drew on data from 14 exemplar cases from the 256 families who participated in the ethnographic component of the Three-City Study. This study was a longitudinal, multisite, multimethod project designed to examine the impact of welfare reform on the lives of low-income African American, Latino, Hispanic, and non-Hispanic White families and their young children (cf. Winston et al., 1999). The Three-City Study included an ethnography of 256 families and their children. Families were recruited into the ethnography between June 1999 and December 2000. Thirty-eight percent of the 256 mothers reported a history of familial incarceration: 15 were or had been incarcerated themselves, and 59 reported at least one of their children’s fathers were or had been incarcerated. In 14 out of the 15 cases of maternal incarceration, men (previous/current boyfriends or husbands) that fathered at least one child had also been incarcerated. In keeping with our interest in including criminal justice involvement as an element of cumulative disadvantage characterizing tiffany bangle bracelet families (per Sharlin & Shamai, 2000), we purposely chose exemplar mothers from the subsample of cases characterized by parental incarceration.

Demographic characteristics of exemplar casesThe 14 participants chosen as exemplars for the present analysis were generally representative of the larger ethnography (see Winston et al., 1999, for demographic information), although the 14 women included in this tiffany jewellery tended to be somewhat more likely to be on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) than the larger group of 256 families. Women included in the present analysis ranged from 21 to 43 years of age (M = 31). The ethnic breakdown of participants was as follows: African American in = 6), Hispanic (n=4), and White (n = 4). Twelve of the women were single (3 of the 12 identified as divorced or separated). Only one participant was married and one was engaged. Participants had an average of three children (range 1-7). Five of the 14 women were working at the time of the interview and half of the participants had at least a high school diploma or GED and 4 of these 7 had some education beyond high school. All 14 participants had some involvement with the criminal justice system via the father of one of their children or previous involvement themselves.Ethnographic Methodology

To gather and analyze ethnographic data on the mothers and their families a method of “structured discovery” was devised to systematize and to coordinate the efforts of the Three-City Study ethnography team. This involved an integrated and transparent process for collecting, handling, and analyzing the data (see Winston et al., 1999, for a full description of the ethnographic approach and design). Interviews with and observations of the respondents focused on specific topics (e.g., health, family economics, intimate relationships, neighborhood) but allowed flexibility to capture unexpected findings and relationships among cheap silver jewelry. Ethnographers also engaged in participant observation with respondents, attending family functions and outings, being party to extended conversations, and accompanying mothers and their children to the welfare office, hospital, daycare, or workplace. Data sources for the present study included detailed ethnographer field notes and transcribed interviews.Exemplar case approach
